A and J Motorcycle Safety School offers an effective hands-on training program using the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Rider Education curriculum. Our goal is to provide you with the basic techniques to become a safe, responsible, and successful motorcyclist. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation® is the internationally recognized developer of the comprehensive, research-based, Rider Education which promotes lifelong-learning for motorcyclists by reducing the number of crashes, injuries, and fatalities, and also by promoting the public images of the responsible rider.

Our instructors (interested in becoming a coach?) are nationally certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and licensed by the state of Maine.

We offer two different courses:

the hands-on Basic Rider Course (BRC) for novices seeking a motorcycle license and to learn practical skills and techniques (5 hours of classroom & 10 hours hands-on training)

the Experienced Rider Course (ERC)will provide you with the basic techniques to become a safe, responsible, and successful motorcyclist. This is for experienced licensed motorcyclists to enhance their current skills (6-8 hours of hands-on training). We hold the MSF-ERC course on the last Friday on the month.

From the top of the "new" Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, located in Prospect and Verona Island near Bucksport, Maine on Route 1, you will be able to see beautiful Penobscot Bay as it meets the Penobscot River between Prospect and Verona Island. You’ll have a spectacular view of the Maine coast south to the Camden Hills, East to Mount Desert Island and Northwest to the eastern reaches of the Appalachian Trail and Mount Katahdin.

OUR BIKES
We offer 22 motorcycles, All late models with electric starters (no kick starters in the bunch.) All are well maintained. We also have extra models (usually the same type) on hand as a standby or back up. Styles range from the standard Honda NightHawk, Cruiser styles likes Honda Rebel (some lowered) and Suzuki GZ250 (one lowered).
We also offer on/off road bikes for the dirt bike riders who feel more at ease on a dirt bike when they finally want to move up and get the motorcycle license. We can accomodate folks from a 27' inseam and up. We even had one guy that was 6'7"! You can feel safe and confident on our bikes.

The instructor matches the bike to the student on the first day of training. Here are some of our training motorcycles.
